A heard a friend of mine from college (who I had not spoken to in a while) was selling on Amazon and he seemed to be doing pretty well. He kept it under wraps and didn’t flash it, but I wanted to know so I bugged him relentlessly until he agreed to talk to me about.
I took him to lunch, a bribe maybe, so I could pepper him with many questions.
After a while he just laughed. He had brought his laptop so he opened it up and walked me through everything he was doing, and showed me exactly how I could do it.
It was like the sun just got brighter, and warmer, no joke, the light bulb was suddenly on. I knew this was what i wanted to do, what I needed to do for my family. No more corporate grind! At first I could create extra income, then freedom, then work on my terms!

The year is 2015, I was on top of the world, in fact I was pretty sure I had it all.
I had been a personal trainer turned business owner, turned business consultant (I helped entrepreneurs open more than 300 gyms on 4 continents), and now I was commuting between Calgary and Los Angeles where I was the Chief Operations Officer for a rapidly growing fitness franchise.
I was in the office every morning in the onslaught of the mess, we had resurrected this business from near failure just a year ago. My fitness had slid, I hadn’t worked out in some time, I’d work all week, then drive to LAX, fly to Calgary, see my wife (who was miserable) then I’d fly back Sunday and repeat.
Suddenly my “Dream Job” was not so dreamy! I’d had enough, I resigned, sold my California home and returned to Canada full time.
Sure we had Amazon in Canada at that time but it hadn’t caught on yet. In fact getting a package on your doorstep on a Saturday in Canada in 2015 was unheard of, even more foreign to me was that most of the things sold on Amazon were sold by people just like you and me.
When I came back to Canada I still owned three personal training gyms. I wanted to identify ways we could offset overhead for our businesses, I always knew product sales was a missed opportunity and it seemed like if I could also sell on Amazon I’d have the ability to buy in volume at better prices. In regards to Amazon I am speaking about “wholesale” where I’d buy existing brand products from the brands themselves and sell at “retail” cost like you pay at your local Walmart or any other store.
As it happened there was a group running a “How to Sell on Amazon” workshop in my area. I attended and listened, I found it fascinating, and of course they had coaching to sell. They were talking about the “Private Label” process, how I could create my own brand of products to sell on Amazon.
Being a business consultant I was very skeptical, but they spoke of things I didn’t know and understand, it looked too good to be true but I couldn’t find the flaw (because I just didn’t know what I didn’t know.)
Reluctantly I signed up for their coaching program. I mean I was a coach, I knew the power of a mentor and compared to a gym, starting an Amazon business is very inexpensive.
Still they wanted $36,000! (No one that ever works with Seller Tactics as a brand new seller will ever be asked to pay fees like this, we want you to earn a huge return, because isn’t that how business is supposed to work? Each dollar you spend you should make 2, 3, 5 or 10 back!)

I did get to start, but I didn’t get far.
I had 2 or 3 coaching calls (hard to remember) and then the organization was shutdown by Amazon and the FTC! (You can probably find the news they were called FBA Stores.) I was out my $10,000 investment, I didn’t have any products, or an Amazon business but..
My coach had been helpful, he had shown me enough in a couple calls that I knew…
The only way I was going to make my $10,000 back was to get my Amazon business off the ground, and the potential was there, massively.
So I focused on what I already knew, I negotiated with supplier contacts I had and began to sell wholesale on Amazon. The margin was super tight, and I had to use a lot of money to buy a lot of inventory, but it allowed me to become familiar with the complexities of selling online, and then you won’t believe what happened!
My wife and I were physically not supposed to be able to have children (that’s a story you can read more about on my first brand’s website at www.wicfamilynaturals.com) but my wife was suddenly pregnant!
Well miracles do happen! My first son was born in 2016, and by the end of 2017 I was selling my gyms. They were far from my home, I was not going to miss one minute of my son’s life, I could see the potential of selling on Amazon to both support my family financially, and to give me the freedom to always be available to them, to not miss a minute of my son’s life.
In 2020 my second son was born, and we all know what else happened in the world. It was hard to imagine how hard life would have become if I hadn’t sold our gyms and shifted to selling online full time.
The ride wasn’t smooth, I went through many courses, I had other business owner friends that used different consultants to help them launch on Amazon, and out of 8-9 of us, a couple years later I was the only one still selling. Everyone else had given up.
Why?
Well, because I was a coach, and I knew that any time I hit a wall if I wasn’t getting through it I needed to find someone to guide me. I needed the right mentor.

(A weird hint is that it kind of relates to those old index cards in libraries that you may or may not be old enough to remember.) If you are lost we will actively complete these processes with you, you will leave the call understanding how to complete the steps, what to look for and see exactly how we’re supporting you to find potentially profitable products AND ensure you are lowering your risks (because anyone that tells you that you still won’t have failures is either not an active seller or a liar.)
Week 3-4: Picking A Winner! (Or Winners)

We will not encourage you to source or launch products that we wouldn’t consider investing in ourselves!
During this call you will review all of your Product Discovery Data with your coach. With our Tactical Idea Score, and our data validation ranges you will often be directed to your best ideas naturally as you complete the steps in our course modules.
Your coach will still review all of your ideas with you, we will speak to what we see as though we were your business partner. We will not encourage you to launch products we wouldn’t be willing to risk our own resources on.
